This is the climax of the entire Star Trek franchiseStar Trek: The Next Generation is the very best of Star Trek! We cansimply say that, without a single doubt, these series changed Sci-Fitelevision history and maybe even the tech world as we knew it.
You can't beat this show... not by a long shot. What we have here is avision, so far ahead of its time that one might place its creator, GeneRoddenberry, right next to Jules Verne. I would!
The overall look and feel of the show is yet to be exceeded. We'retalking' all angles here! From the designs of the uniforms, the ship, computer interface etc... to the visual appearance of all the speciesour heroes encounter. Just take a look of the design of the bridge, would you change a single thing in there? I wouldn't! Even today, 20+years after the pilot episode was aired, it still looks realisticallyfuturistic and flawless. These are the series where the "trademark"Star Trek computer UI design was first introduced. A design, so slickand unique, that all future series of the franchise had no choice butto inherit.
About the characters. Honestly, some of the actors performances werenot that good, but they will grow on you and they do improve along theway. The thing is, the bad actors were all shadowed by PatrickStewart's AMAZING performance. His character, Jean-Luc Picard is theultimate Star Trek captain! Maybe even the only captain (or any kind ofcommander) that is charismatic enough to be in charge in ANY Sci-Fishow I have ever seen (and I've seen a lot of them).
Personally, I've never been more satisfied with a Sci-Fi show to date.Would love to see the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-E) and its crew have atleast one more adventure.
Star Trek The Next Generation Complete Seriesmarvelous! This series is a true marvel! I don't recall seeing any other series sodiverse in its thematology, so rich in ideas. Patrick Stewart reallyadds a lot of depth to his role, throughout the series there arereferences to drama, literature, science that make some episodes a truejourney through beautiful ideas. Also, the plot is sometimes very good, despite the scientific discrepancies one often encounters, or theeffects that might at some points appear outdated. This is sciencefiction that aims to elucidate the eternal human questions, not justgive a dramatized prospect of human evolution. Data is a uniquecharacter, his interaction with the captain (and the rest of the crew)is uniquely enjoyable, often giving insights into the evolution ofhuman ethics, as for example in an episode where Captain Piccard iscalled to support the view that Data is a conscious life form and thushas the right to decide for his own fate; that he cannot be consideredas property, even though he is a human construct. You really never knowwhere the next episode will take you...from MacBeth to Cyrano, or fromData's love affair to the first contact with the crystaline entity, orSherlock Holmes mysteries. Truly, I have never seen any other serieswith such a broad range of ideas and references. I wish to thank allthose who made it possible, and Patrick Stewart for adding such adramatic depth to his role. Truly, in no other case has an actor in TVdone such a great job at combining so diverse elements in a singlecharacter, and with so superb acting...Patrick Stewart really carriesyou away with his acting, it is epic to say the least. I remember himin so many roles, never did he disappoint me.
Its a magnificent work of art, one that stretches across many marvelsof the human intellect to create its beautiful and educating (in theGreek sense, as actors become teachers of life through their dilemmasand adventures) drama.
